I'm completely drawn to Lyfe Harris' "Ten" EP. It's sound, the promising talent featured and the fact that he's completely raw in expressing himself has been tugging at me to share. I was first introduced to Lyfe Harris from his production work on Chicago-based singer, Njomza's song called "Hold On". The frank, heart-to-heart lyrics supported by Lyfe's somber sound shaped by some of my favorite processing effects completely resonated with me. It made me a believer and I wanted to hear more of the story. Then, shortly after, "Ten" was released.
"Ten" continues to tell a story that touches on love, coping mechanisms to pain due to questionable relationships, the pressure of success and status as well as self-discovery. He collaborated with a couple up and coming Oakland, CA artists that are buzzing big time this year. Jane Handcock, an amazing songwriter for Adrian Marcel contributed to the success of his "7 Days of Weak" album, which was one of my favorites of 2013. I wasn't aware that she sang until I heard her rule Drake and James Fauntleroy's "Girls Love Beyonce" track on Adrian Marcel's latest release "Weak After Next". Kehlani, a seasoned 19 year old R&B singer, storyteller who is wise beyond her years. She was a part of the annual CMJ Music Marathon in New York, and featured as one of Billboard's emerging artist this past October. She recently dropped her first solo project, "Cloud 19" that's refreshing and light. Lyfe Harris also worked with a collection of producers on this project that brought the feels too. These young stars are twinkling bright right now, but I foresee an even brighter future as they evolve. All parties involved on this project have a strong passion for music, and they know just how to convey it to us. Real artists are alive and well, and you can always find that here on Really Not Radio. Good stuff. As usual make sure to support and keep up with Lyfe Harris (Twitter, Soundcloud, Bandcamp,Website) by purchasing, downloading, sharing and attending his shows. Peace.
