My boy Bishop dropped this one in my ear a couple weeks ago, and I just can't get enough of that good stuff. Bish and I on any given day have VERY different musical preference, but we totally are in agreement that Love/Art Memoirs EP is a project you can't deny. Alex Isley, and yes she IS an Isley...you know the legendary Isley Brothers. It's a must that I clarify and take the youngstas to school right quick LOL. Rhythm & blues, soul, funk and sweet expressions of that good ole, strong love flow through her blood giving her no choice, but to hit you in the gut with her piercing lyrics. Her sound is like cashmere soft and warm, but when you look closely it appears to be rough. Love/Art Memoirs includes you on an emotional roller coaster taking you higher with songs like "Into Orbit", "Don't Do" and a few low notes with songs like "F.D.A" and "Set In Stone". This album reminded me of how good love can feel and how much it hurts when love decides to leave. Everrrrrry single song on this album is a fav. Alex Isley's Love/Art Memoirs debut satisfies my appetite with the 5+ minute songs, but when that last kick and snare hits, and the warm pad trails away I'm eager for more of whatever Alex Isley is bringing to the table. Oh, and let me mention that she wrote, arranged and produced this entire project herself...uhhhh that's major additional points in my book!!! She's just showing off now ;-)))) Go on ahead I'm totally looking forward to what's to come from her. Stay connected to her through her Twitter or Facebook and make sure you look out for her next project Kiss of Life, Redux 8/1/12.

If you've sought out or even just did a simple google search on the Mayan culture you would have discovered that 2012 will not be the end of times. Mayans believe that when one period or era ends a new one begins. They believe in renewal and continuation, and I feel like there is shift in hip-hop music and music period. It's a time of renewal and with Timothy Rhyme's "Vintage" album it's another reminder that Hip-Hop is NOT dead. Vintage is his 3rd album release, but his first project under the name Timothy Rhyme. His first collaboration on an album with one producer who goes by the moniker Phil the Pain. Personally, I think working with one producer makes for a solid project, and this album makes a statement all the way through with the thought-provoking lyrics of a person determined to improve continually to the smoothed out head-knocking beats. Vintage hasfeatures from Blu, Chaundon,Mega Trife, KomplexOne,Matthew Lowe, A.M.I.T.S,Jeff Kongpachit,Blazee, Destruct, EQ , Keno and last but not leastRymeezee.I personally relate to Vintage sooo much because I always say continual self-improvement is my movement, which to me and clearly to Timothy Rhyme as well, means to everyday just focus on growth in thought, in relationships, with goals and professionally. Not becoming complacent and always focused on the next level of this thing we call life. Vintage is that pleasant reminder to keep your mind on mo'! Today, marks the first date of the nationwide Vintage Tour that kicks off in Las Vegas, NV. Click on over to the First Dirt website to view the tour dates and locations and the other artists on the roster. Know about it! First Dirt is moving and shaking and you might just wanna keep up...I'm telling you pay close attention to First Dirt. Okay, enough of me bumpin' my gums...go on ahead and listen to the album below. If you want to be apart of the shift and support artists that are making an impact with the music they create please buy the Vintage album here. It's truly a blessing to luck up on artists such as Elaine Faye. Last night, her band was the selected entertainment for a Grammy event held at the legendary Conway Studios. Elaine's vocal instrument and acoustic guitar strummings along with an additional acoustic guitar (Luis Munoz), bassist (Enrique Hinojosa), a Cajón player (Darren Agustus) and two background vocalists (Cheyenne Melton, Oliver Lee) set the mood for the evening. The strong sound created with this simple ensemble impacted me quite a bit to share Elaine Faye with you TODAY! She is having a great year with multiple music placements on major TV networks and joined the lineup for Bonnaroo, Coachella and SXSW music festivals! Here's Elaine Faye's website to keep in tune with all the happenings. So, here you have the song Mama's Lessons by Elaine Faye!

I don't know there's just something about trumpets, tubas, trombones and saxophones that get me excited. When I come across music from bands such as the Youngblood Brass Bands I realllllly regret that I dropped out of band in 5th grade smh haaaa. I have sooo much respect for musicians whether if playing comes naturally for them or if they tirelessly practice day in and day out they get much props for me! Well, the Youngblood Brass Band is one of my fav in this genre because they make it funky, with hip-hop vibrations and lace songs with elements of punk and jazz that get me going! If you are having a bad day you need the song below in your life to turn your frown upside down ;-) It's called Brooklyn and I LOVE it for various reasons, but the number one reason being that it is just good, fun music for the soul to get your boogie on to! Here's the link to their website to find more brass goodness.
Sacramento, California has a wealth of talent that the world needs to know about immediately, and I'm going to do my best to let the people know what's up through Really Not Radio. I'm super proud to finally be able to publish a piece on C Plus. I don't know the significance of why he refers to himself as C Plus, but he gets an A+ for solid content and delivery, SMACKINEM beats and anyone into style, fashion and the arts you will take notice to his presentation. I've been knocking Viernes Negro II for awhile now and I'm safe to say it's a favorite. I really enjoy his versatility of topics because it keeps the experience balanced and interesting. It's crazy that this is a free downloadable mixtape because it's better than most albums you will find on iTunes or on the shelves at Best Buy. This mixtape is hard to stop listening to because you want to go back and listen again to see how he connected his thoughts with his choice words. Plus' word play is niiiiice along with the featured emcees like Illecism, N-Pire Da Great, Street Knowledge, Chase Moore to name several, and all the beats are banging from many of Sacramento's own contributing producers Chase Moore, Hippie Sabotage, Nicatyne and Lee Bannon. Nice work fellas ;-) If you aren't familiar with C Plus this is a great first impression, but if you just have to have more, which I know you will click on over to his Bandcamp page and you will find oh so much more! Oh, and check out his website it's gotta nice feel to it!
Hey! Hey! Erica Dee the DJ the emcee/Rocks crowds from here to Nelson BC/and sings/Bringing you the jazzy-soul melodies! I couldn't think of any better way than to start off with a freestyle to introduce you to Miss Erica Dee! If you catch her shows, or if she's spinning or probably whenever she is just vibing out with her peeps she will bust a flow on the spot. I really love that about her. It's just fun and keeps things exciting. I first stumbled upon Erica Dee at a show where she was a background singer who out-shined the headliner in every way: stage presence, vocals, energy I could go on and on, but I won't haaaa anywho I'm back. So, as usual I had to do my digging and found all of the music and videos I could for her. In all my searching high and low lol I came across her mixtape Golden and I'm safe to say this was my favorite soul, hip-pop, jazzy album of 2011. I played this mixtape erday for at least a month NO LIE. The beats selected, combined with her buttery vocals and super positive and uplifting lyrics and sound makes this a timeless album. I'm actually listening to it as I type and it STILL feels great! You have to download this joint and purchase it. I GUARANTEE it will keep you rockin. The entire album is SMACKINEM, but my ultimate fav joints are "Good Day" and "Try Again" extremely solid tracks. They just make you feel REALLY good and sure that brighter days are right around the corner. I could go on and on about Erica Dee, but I'm going to let you go so you can get into the music. Don't just stop here with what I'm giving you because there is a lot more goodness online. Jump on YouTube! If you want to hear from more artists like Erica Dee you have to support them. Artists like Erica Dee should be what the commercial media is feeding us if they truly cared about our well-being PERIOD Okay, I'm off my soap box for the day, but make sure you FOLLOW her on Twitter and LIKE her Facebook page. SUPPORT DOPE ARTISTS NOW! Might I add she's a cool artist to follow because her posts let you in on her musical adventures. She's performed with some great artists and is traveling to some great places. Here's her website too for you to click on over to for some more cool musical goodies! You're welcome.
Summer is right around the corner, and I know it's on everyone's mind to get their Kanye Workout Plan in order 1 and 2 and...so here's an eclectic mix to get you going and help you make it through that 45 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of sculpting your bod. Now here's a real treat for you avid spinners out there...this mix was actually created for a spin class so it starts out upbeat to work on your speed, then it hits mid-tempo to get across those flat lands, then get ready to climb and it ends with a nice cool down ahhhhhhh. Enjoy getting it right and tight and as always STAY TUNED annnnnd
Here's a quadruple threat artist that I've been waiting to feature for quite some time now. I've been patiently waiting for an album from Tish, but her life is being maneuvered down another path that is equally as exciting. Tish is a singer, rapper, TV concept writer, publisher and songwriter who was recently signed to Universal Music Publishing Group! When I first heard Tish's voice on the Fallen Star record I was hooked and instantly knew she has IT. Tish has worked and is rocking with some of the best and biggest names in the industry and she's mos def making everyone listen. Tish has put in work to be where she is today and deserves every bit of recognition and success! This is going to be a BIG year for her and I can't wait to hear more from Tish! To get to know Tish a bit better get into the conversation we had below and as always...

Really Not Radio:Listen2Tish huh? So, what is it that you want to tell us...We're all ears and ready to listen lol
Tish: Listen2tish Is exactly what I want people to do. I am very creative. I write music , tv show concepts , marketing concepts and i want every one to listen. I was always an influential person. Hence listen2tish. I want people to listen to everything i have to say.
RNR:Ohhhh kaay I heard that! You are now living in sunny southern california, more specifically, Los Angeles, but you're from New York. If you ask me you've lived in two of the greatest cities in the U.S. How does the music scene compare between the two?
Tish: I am from the BRONX New York but the music scene has moved to LA. While there are still producers in NY, majority of songwriters and producers have moved here. I follow the work. I also LOVE Hollywood And the fact that marijuana is not a drug but a medicine. LOVE THAT.
RNR:Haaaa okay, the perks of living in Cali! You sing wonderfully, rap like a boss and you're a songwriter/publisher. When and how did you get into music?
Tish: My start in singing began at age 6, My mom loved to sing and she shared that love with myself and siblings. I always sang Frankie Lymon and the Teenager's "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" And Dionne Warwicks " that's what friends are for". My sister was more the vocalist at that time which led me to rapping. I learned to rap from my other brother. That was my first choice for many years after. I got into the music business years later.
RNR:Out of the three what do you enjoy the most?
Tish: Ten Years ago I would have said I'll never be a singer just a rapper who wrote songs. Now I can say I love singing. I have been through a lot and it seems when i sing it comes through and people really identify and feel the passion.
RNR:I've been hitting you up for awhile now to see when I can get my ears on an album because the first time I heard that Fallen Star joint I just had to get more! However, I see that you are more focused on songwriting now being signed with Universal Music Publishing Group. Congratulations on that by the way. I guess my question is how did you get to where you are today? Was it hard work, who you know, luck? I know many aspiring songwriters would love to hear your story?
Tish:My story is long but I'll give you the short. That saying it takes TEN years to become an overnight success is very true when it comes to me. It was in no way easy.. It was a long hard walk to this point. I was focused, I loved my music and I really could die at the thought of failure which is why i refuse to fail.
RNR:Yep, the thought of failure would definitely keep you motivated. Is songwriting a gift or do you have to practice and work at it to be great?
Tish: I think songwriting is a bit of both, Gift and practice.
RNR: Where do you find yourself writing most of the time? Is it after a wild night of partying lol a day spent by yourself, in the studio, after a new experience??? I'm curious...
Tish: I write whatever comes to mind and where ever but mostly in the studio.
RNR:How do YOU know when you wrote a hit?
Tish:You never know when you wrote a hit until its a hit. But you can write a song that you know sounds good.
RNR:What keeps you inspired?
Tish:LIFE is my daily source of inspiration. Other peoples lives. As long as i wake up im inspired. Heartbreak helped me a lot.
RNR:Ahhh yes, that good ole heartbreak. Heartbreak begets the best material! What's a typical day like for you?
Tish:Typical Day... Wake up round 12pm ... shower bout 1. Video games ( call of duty) till bout 3:00 then off to the studio from 4 until. wake up do it again.
RNR: Sounds like that GOOD LIFE to me ;-) I know you love good food. What's your favorite spot to eat in LA? In NYC?
Tish:hmm I love to eat at Los Balcones on Vine Near sunset...I love The Oaks Gourmet Deli and My fav Sushi spot Is Sushi Ran.
RNR:You've worked with quite a few artists what has been your best or most memorable session to-date?
Tish:hmm memorable session was with Polow Da Don... We did a song called All My Lifetime ... Its pretty much about my last break up.. I literally broke down crying during recording and it sounded amazing .. Wish you guys could hear it. Polow Is an amazing producer btw.
RNR:Wow! Sounds like a great moment. I wish I could hear it!!!Where do you see yourself and what are some of your accomplishments you hope to achieve in the next two years?
Tish:Def see myself getting a couple grammys next year... maybe even having my Tv Show picked up. Def have a couple number 1's under my belt.
RNR:You'll get it...hard work pays off ALWAYS!What's one piece of advice you would give to those who aspire to be in your shoes one day?
Tish:If you want to be in my shoes.. Be prepared for Pain.. lol No forget my shoes.. if you want to be successful work hard. Be good to everyone you meet and build the right relationships.. Relationships are really key.
RNR:I hear that time and time again that building relationships truly are key to it all. What upcoming projects should we be on the lookout for and how can the viewers keep in touch with all things Tish?
Tish:I have a bunch of stuff im working on but I'll let you in on 1! Interscope Recording Artist Ahsan Watts!! He is amazing and i have written most of his records! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXW1ucmmUD4 THIS KID IS GOING TO BLOW YOU AWAY!!
All things Tish Twitter.com/listen2tish get ur daily dose of me talking shit. lol im pretty funny i herd. lol Youtube.com/listen2tish I post a video series called on the move with tish which is more behind the scenes n introduces people my process and new friends i am making here in LA.
RNR: YES! Your "On the move with Tish" are very inspiring AND Ahsan Watts really did a great job with his rendition of 'Who's Lovin You' by the Jackson 5! Can't wait to hear more from him and YOU! THANK YOU soooo much Tish for your time and sharing with us today! Really Not Radio wishes you much continued success!
The other day I came across a post on Facebook that asked what happened to the state of women in hip-hop today in comparison to the late 80's. The image they posted had a more sexually suggestive Nicki Minaj and strong, respectable Queen Latifah side by side. The caption read, "A digression in intelligence in only two decades". This post provoked so many thoughts for me, but the most prominent thought was that I know quite a few female emcees and rappers with intelligent flow that carry themselves as classy, confident women who exude major sex appeal while leaving A LOT to the imagination especially with their lyrics, content and story telling. Nola Darling is one of those dynamic duos that help preserve the foundation of women in hip-hop. Last year, I attended one of their shows at Little Temple in Los Angeles, CA and they really put on a SHOW...with props and everything! That was a real treat because it's rare that you come across up-and-coming, independent artists that tap into the theatrical, performance realm. It really makes for a great show to actually have choreography annnnd costumes, but only if you can pull it off. Nola Darling has IT not only do they have entertaining their audience down to a science, but their music is REALLY good. Their flow is witty and intelligent and I'm thinking that's probably because they are college educated HELLO and have accumulated an expansive vocabulary used to create vivid images. While getting across relatable topics by saying it without saying it. Something like parables, and you will miss it if you aint up on it lol Not to get to technical, but their music is just fun, a breath of needed fresh air and they mos def give me and I hope now you after viewing the videos below that women like the Queen Latifahs, the MC Lytes the Salt N Pepas are still here in 2012 and in the future. If there's nothing new under the sun Nola Darling just keeps the sun shining bright and HAWT! Check out their latest video STFU (Start the Riot) produced by Kwame yuuuup...*singing* "my name is Kwame" Kwame and if you want to hear more music from Nola Darling download their Pretty Gritty Mini-Mixtape here. Also, keep in touch with them from any of the social networks found on www.noladarling.com and if you have to have a copy of STFU (Start the Riot) you can grab it here! SUPPORT that GOOD music!
This is such a treat. Dread's Crayons mixtape is artistry at it's finest from the timeless Music to the visuals provided by Dome Apparel: Creative Minds & Grinds. You have to watch the video below on how they created the cover art for Crayons. This project has so much love and creativity behind it. I just know it's going to do really well. Not only is this mixtape hot lava, but all of Dread's past mixtapes found on his Bandcamp site will make you pay attention! Dread is only 21 years of age, but has a lot of wisdom and will definitely be a light to many from his generation and beyond. Well, I'm going to zip it cuz I can go on and on, but before I go 1. Make sure you watch the making of the cover art video 2. Get to know Dread, the man behind the music from the conversation we had below 3. press Play on the Crayons Mixtape below and 4. Be prepared to have a new favorite artist! k bye.
Really Not Radio: Who is Dread? Who is Ayo Beckley? Dread: Um. Well I am a 21 year old mass communications major that attends Jackson State University. The twist is that I am also a artist, photographer, and director. RNR: What is Flight League? Dread: Flight league is my tribe. We are not a label. We are not a company. We are simply just a group of kids who share the same vision but with different artistic talents. Whether it is music, videography, photography, engineering, or production, every thing comes together and transforms into Flight League. This year, after i drop CRAYONS, Imma really focus on my team and their debut projects to introduce the world to. In due time, everyone will understand what flight league is. RNR: Well, I'm excited to hear and see more. I see you are from all over the map, but where do you call home? Dread: I represent alot of places California is my home. I was born in Oakland and I grew up going to school in Berkeley. I learned alot from my hometown. We have such a rich culture out there and people think so radically that growing up in an area like that was an amazing experience. RNR: I know Berkley is live. I've checked out all your past releases on your bandcamp page, and I'm really digging your music! You use a lot of fresh, new metaphors that I haven't heard before and I LOVE IT! The word play is nice too...very intelligent flow. What can we expect from your upcoming release "Crayons" on 4/30? Dread: Expect everything to be turned up times 100. This my first project that i have put out where 90% of the music is all orginal and made from scratch. This is a brand new sound that im about to unleash the world. I tried to push the boundaries of music with this one. I feel like there should be no specific genre when you are making music. Just make whatever your heart feels is right. All that has lead me to this point this point in my life. Im excited. RNR: You should be. I'm excited about Crayons too it does have a great sound. It's mos def in rotation over here. I also totally agree with you that music is more of a feeling for me as well vs. giving it a specific label. How did you come up or what is the significance behind the title Crayons? Dread: So the meaning behind crayons is that i am at a young stage of my music. When we were babies the first thing we were able to use to express our art were crayons. Thats where we started from. Thats where i feel i started from. I can only use the basics that have been given to me. I can only color within the black lines. In a year if this project takes off these crayons will turn into paint brushes. RNR: Hmmm...I love that! So poetic ;-) How do you describe your sound or style? What sets you apart from the rest and makes you...YOU? Dread: I feel like i am realist. What naturally bonds every human in the world is the will to survive. Thats what brings us all together. Whether you are rich or poor, life is not guaranteed. So that is how I live my life. Thats the picture i want to paint when I make music. Real Feelings, real Observations, and real beliefs. I wouldn't say it sets me apart from any artist because i honestly feel like every artist has their own path. The fans choose what path they wanna join. I just hope that they respect mine. RNR: What producers have you worked with on your past releases and who will be featured on Crayons? Dread: Really I stuck with my in house producer since 08. I used alot of industry instrumentals in my previous projects. This project is slightly different. Royal T produced over half of the mixtape but i added a new line of upcoming producers that I feel shouldnt be slept on. Producers like Itzumiaki, and Matt Mcghee are only some of the names. As far as far as features go. I really wanted to feature alot of key people that i feel are at the same level of creativity that i am at right now. I think i have about 9 features on the this tape which is the most I have ever had on a tape. I really dont wanna spoil who's on it . I just want you all to enjoy the collaborations when the tape drops lol. RNR: Nowadays you have to wear many hats and I see that you are a recording artist, photographer and video director. What came first the microphone or the camera? Briefly, what's your story of evolution up to this point in your endeavors? Dread: Well ive always been doing music since i was freshman in high school. I took photography course my junior and senior year in high school and instantly fell in love with photography and videography. Music and photography are so simalar and they are both equally powerful. Now im at jackson State university and me being a mass comm major has really filled all the loose screws for me and meshed both the things that I love the most. RNR: Yes, audio and visual when done right marry very well. Sometimes I don't necessarily like a song until I see the video or vice versa. Who are some of your influences, musically and in general? Dread: I am naturally just influenced from living life and my familly. They are reason that i think the way I think. A teacher told me this past semester, " If you are not thinking, you are not alive ". That was the realest thing ive heard in a long time. I come from rich roots. My parents exposed me to all types of music at a very young age. From artist like yanni, to sting, to Fela Kuti. Also moving so many places, helped really get a vibe of different sounds in the world. Different cities have different sounds. Its a beautiful thing. RNR: mmm Hmmm yes it is. I can tell from your music that you are very cultured and have seen a few things with the years you've been thinking and alive. What have you been listening to lately? Dread: I have been listening to ALOT of Top Dawg Entertainment right now. By far, they are the top dogs in the game right now. I been keeping it real cali these past couple of months. I have alot of Dom Kennedy , IAMSU, and Casey Veggies on my ipod. Gotta pay hometown artist homage and respect because we are all we got. Ace Hood's new mixtape was pretty dope. As far as singers ll i have been listening to these past months is stacy barthe and kevin Cossom. They are also pretty dope. RNR: Nice...nice. Great picks! What is a typical day like for you? Dread: Wake up. Take a shower. Go to class. Leave class. Go to the studio. Go to night Class. After night class, I am right back in the studio till i fall asleep. This is my ritual every day lol RNR: Hard work pays off...just wait and see! All the imagery I've seen of you and your past projects online are very intersting and vivid to me. Just curious growing up what was your favorite TV shows and/or types of movies? Dread: I always loved action hero movies when I was young. Just because I thought the idea of someone being able to do what others cant has always been epic to me! I watched alot of cartoons when I was young. I loved shows that made you expand your imagination. RNR: Yeah, I had a feeling you were into something along those lines! Where do you see yourself in the next two years? Dread: Comfortable. Free. I just want to be able to do what i want and make what i want when i want to. I just want to be respected for being an artist. I just want my parents and team to not have to worry about anything anymore financially. I feel like i deserve this. I want it all and wont stop untill i get what i feel we deserve. RNR: Oh, and you will as long as you just keep pushing and never give up! I believe in ya. You truly are a dope artist! Lastly, let the viewers know about your upcoming projects, shows, etc. and how to keep in touch with all your happenings! Dread: I will be announcing shows and tours in about a month. Im gonna let this tape really marinate with my fans. I plan to drop visuals for every song on the tape throughout the rest of the year. I havent even begun to think about a new project yet. When ever it feels right I will start on a new project! Download Crayons 4-30 available on bandcamp and livemixtapes. Follow me on twitter @DREADorALIVE

What can I say about Mar other than his voice makes me fall in love with him, and want to get married and have all kinds of babies with him LOL. Guys like Mar, Miguel and The Weeknd just have that je ne sais quoi, but its GOT ME! I've been strongly in love with Mar ever since he covered Lil Wayne's song "Single". If you haven't heard or seen the video check it out here! I'm excited about this EP "Seeing Her Naked" because I've been anticipating it ever since I saw the post over at Sticky Sugar Shack. One of my favorite Music sites. Okay, enough of my blabbering, ENJOY! Make sure to connect with Mar, and stay abreast (pun-intended) of his music ;-) Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter and Mar's website!
It's really difficult for me to put groups like Sister Crayon in a box or label their style because it's too hard to pinpoint. I'm not one for labels so why start now, but all I know is that it feels right and it works. They take the best elements from multiple genres and mesh them together to give you a musical experience you won't forget. Sister Crayon considers their music Electronic/Trip-Hop/Soul, and what they create takes me to a place not so far away. A relatable place where I can be honest with my emotions and just let the Music have its way with me. I couldn't decide which video I wanted to post here on Really Not Radio...so why choose you can find both below ;-) Not be confused with their latest release "Bellow", which you can find on their website for purchase from iTunes. Just to add their live performance is a must see. I caught a show some years back at the I Hella Love Fashion show. You can also listen and download for free their latest single "Arcane" from Stereogum. Make sure to Like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!
Cleveland stand up! I'm thrilled to be finally featuring Maclyn Lucille on Really Not Radio™. She is a pure talent NO AUTO TUNE necessary over here. She possesses an effortlessly-powerful four and a half range octave. Wooo weeee just wait until you get a load of MacLu. I'm telling you haaaa She represents Cleveland, Ohio, the home of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, and I'm safe to say she will be inducted in the future. I'm that confident that she will because she is very goal-oriented, crazy work ethic and has a great head on her shoulders to name a few. She has all the necessary variables of the equation to achieve abundant success! Already in her career she has made notable strides. She's performed for our President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton AND has sang the national anthem in front of 20,000 people for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Go GIRL! You can find her music all over the web, on all the major sites like iTunes, YouTube, Pandora, Amazon, iLike and coming soon to Spotify, etc. Her major singles right now are "Where ya At" and "Head to Toe", and she also plans to release a mixtape this summer!!! Really Not Radio: Good day Maclyn Lucille tell the viewers, "Where You At" lol All jokes aside Where are you from?
Maclyn Lucille: Hey! I was born in Detroit but I am a proud Clevelander! 216 baby! Haha.
Really Not Radio: CLEVELAND!!! What's the music scene like there? Are there a lot of venues for up-and-coming artists to perform?
Maclyn Lucille: The music scene in Cleveland, right now, is CRAZY! I mean with MGKs recent signing, by the way congrats and shout out to him, with Cudi and Chip! Eyes are on Cleveland right now, and I plan on being next! Haha! There are A LOT of live venues in Cleveland, you just have to know where to go. Almost every nightclub has a stage, and is willing to book artist under the right circumstances. Plenty of Jazz venues like the famous “Night Town,” and like I said, anywhere with a stage, haha. Cleveland loves music.
Really Not Radio: Sounds like an artists dream!!! I first learned about you from one of your many YouTube videos. It's been exciting for me to watch you go from singing in your bathroom without effects...then it progressed to songs with reverb to singing in the studio. lol My question is how did you get to the point you are now? Did the videos help you to get discovered?
Maclyn Lucille: Oh wow, that’s so cool! I always wondered if people would notice that little transition, im finding people ‘like’ the kind of raw aspect of my first videos but the ones in the studio mic get A LOT more views! I started my YouTube when I went to college, it was all about putting SOMETHING out so everyone could hear me sing, if they hadn’t already, also as another marketing tool, and it turned out to be a little bigger then me and my team thought, haha. The same people who suggested I start the YouTube are who I would say ‘discovered’ me so no, however, people who would have NEVER seen me have heard me now because of Youtube. Different writers and producer, even some who’ve written and produced some of the songs I was covering which is awesome!
Really Not Radio: Okay, I get it makes sense. YouTube furthered your reach, but you were already ON or discovered when you started the YouTubery...cool. You've covered many great artist songs. Who are the most influential to you for wanting to pursue music?
Maclyn Lucille: I would have to say Alicia Keys was the first artist to inspire my pursuit for the industry. I seen an amazing biracial woman with an amazing voice, still being true to her self with the braids and all this and I was like wow! That could be me. Musically I am inspired by SEVERAL artist, several genres, so I could make a list for days! Haha.
Really Not Radio: ahaha girl I hear ya and YES Alicia Keys is a fav of mine as well for many of those same reasons. At what age did you realize you wanted to be the star that you are?
Maclyn Lucille: Ha, thanks! I don’t think I'm quite a star yet! But, I realized I wanted to be a star when I was 12 years old, I had been singing for a while with a youth choir called “The Singing Angels” and I just won my first solo, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland. I always loved singing, but the first time I sang alone to a crowd and heard and seen people stand and applaud and cheer for me, that’s when I knew, haha sounds a little self absorbed now but that moment changed me, I knew I never wanted to do anything else but feel that from people, that love people will show you when you share your gift!
Really Not Radio: Now, that would be a video I would want to see! Someone in your family must have recorded your Over the Rainbow performance :-) What is one thing that you've taken from the experience from attending Berklee College of Music?
Maclyn Lucille: One thing that Berklee really taught me was, if you really want this you have to work hard. I MEAN HARD! Berklee was not an easy experience for me, but I grew so much as a musician, not to mention it was the first time being away from home, I was really doing what I always said I would. I did something, in retrospect was probably dumb haha, but I did something great and I really took a chance with Berklee. I didn’t apply to any other colleges out of high school, I was totally committed to going to Berklee, I set a goal and accomplished it. Berklee was a great learning experience if anything.
Really Not Radio: That's awesome Maclyn. I bet Berklee would be tough, but it shaped you for what to expect with a career in music. I can tell you are very goal-oriented. What are some things you wish to accomplish in the next year?
Maclyn Lucille: Thank for the compliment! Ha! Its funny you ask because like I just said, I set a big, somewhat crazy goal and I reached it! Ever since I was little I’ve made goals and had dreams that a lot of people might be afraid to try to go after, but I feel if I don’t set a goal I won't know where I’m going or what I’m working for! As far as 2012 goes, this year is going to be AMAZING! Im already getting booked for shows this summer and the ball is rolling! I plan on FINALLY releasing my first project! My goal is to drop my mixtape this summer! I can't even begin to explain how excited I am for this! A lot of people have been waiting and I can't wait to share it! Im so stingy with my music, haha, but I want to make sure everything I release is as perfect as possible! 2012 is THEE year.
Really Not Radio: Yesssss....we can't wait for a mixtape and I know I will have it rotation for weeks LOL What pushes you to achieve your dreams/goals?
Maclyn Lucille: The people around me push me. The idea that this is my destiny pushes me. I never want to let anyone down. To put on my people, for my team, to make everyone else’s life better, my mom's life, my friends, I want everyone to experience this BIG dream I have! Sometimes it's hard for me to ‘self-motivate,’ unfortunately I’ve always been the type to need a little push, that extra text ‘Hey, get up and go to the gym,’ haha, so knowing there are people counting on me, that want me to succeed and know I can, pushes me to work harder. This is my destiny and it must be fulfilled!
Really Not Radio: AMEN! I TOTALLY understand. I LOVE IT! So early in your career and you've already achieved major accomplishments. I mean performing for President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is like whoa, and singing the national anthem for the Cleveland Cavaliers game!!! How did you prepare for those events mentally and performance wise?
Maclyn Lucille: Looking back, I honestly cannot tell you how I worked up the gusto, haha. I mean every time I am given an opportunity, a big opportunity like that, it’s almost surreal. For the duration of, rehearsals, preparing or the actual performance it’s like an out of body experience. I can be a pretty insecure person, seeking approval, like most women, but when I am on stage, when I’m performing its [like this is where I] belong. I can’t see myself doing anything else, so confident. I try to go into every performance telling myself , “You betta kill this shit!” haha.
Really Not Radio: AHAHAHA right murdah dem LOL What's a typical day like in the life of Maclyn Lucille?
Maclyn Lucille: A typical day? When I’m not working, I honestly don’t do much, I try to go to the gym and much as possible, but I like a lot of alone time. That’s why I love working! Recording and being busy and going to events, its like my livelihood, and when I’m not doing that I’m a pretty chill person.
Really Not Radio: Sounds refreshing and there's nothing like a lil "me" time! Who are some producers you are working with currently, and what music producers would you love to collaborate with in the future?
Maclyn Lucille: Oh man, let me answer the second part of your question first! Honestly, number one on my list is Timbaland! Oh my, if I had that opportunity I’d jump on it! That would be crazy crazy for me! Also, Kanye, if I he produced and collabed with me on a track I would be in musical heaven! Ha! As far as producers I’m working with now, a lot of producers I work with are from Atlanta or Cleveland! From Dez, to Knes, to my wonderful friend Frank T. Stein! He produced ‘Bouncer’ for me and ‘Still Beating’ 2 of my favorite songs I’ve recorded!
Really Not Radio: If you speak it and write it and work towards you will get those collabs with Tim and Kanye...I believe it. Where does the inspiration come from for you when songwriting? Where do you find yourself writing a majority of the time or does it vary whenever, wherever, whatever? lol
Maclyn Lucille: Like I said before, I like a little push, so when I’m songwriting I like to do it with another person, co-writing. I’m so inspired but other peoples talents and views and energy that in order for me to completely elaborate on my thoughts, ideas, feeling, or emotion for a song I need someone who understands me. I’m not always good at putting my ideas and thoughts into words, creatively that fit the music. If it was up to me entirely every song I record would be an emotional long ballad, haha, and that’s not always right.
Really Not Radio: LOL that's funny aint nothing wrong with the good ballad haaa, but I hear ya. Meeting of the minds are wonderful especially when creating because you never know what will be the outcome. It's exciting. Is it all work and no play for you right now or a nice balance of both? Since I see you just got back from Vegas!!!
Maclyn Lucille: Yes and no. While we did kick it in Vegas, haha, most of my time there was filled with ‘work.’ Lucky for me, I LOVE what I do. I said before when im not working I don’t do much, but working for me is fun! I love my ‘job’ as an artist and entertainer! So I guess you could say it’s the perfect balance of both.
Really Not Radio: I always say it's all about balance in life. Share with the viewers any last words you want us to know about Maclyn Lucille.
Maclyn Lucille: Where do I start, haha. Well, MacLu is hard to put into a box. Its hard to categorize me as an artist, and I believe that’s what sets me apart. I genuinely love singing, to sing and be heard, if nothing else I will always be passionate when I sing, whether it’s a cover for youtube or a performance in Vegas. My goal is to express my passion and make you feel it every time I open my mouth. Pop song, ballad, or an Itlian Aria, haha. My passion is real.
Really Not Radio: OMGah crazy...I would love to hear you sing an Aria. You would kill it so effortlessly. Whoa...crazy I can really envision it now. ahahaha I'm having a moment don't mind me! Lastly, tell the viewers the best way to keep in touch with you to support you, and let us know about any upcoming events, projects, etc. to look out for.
Be on the lookout for my first project/mixtape summer 2012!

Really Not Radio: Okaaaaay GOOGLE ME haaaa Yeah you are all over the web LOVE IT! Maclyn Lucille, thank you sooo much for spending your time sharing with us. It was a pure joy for me, and I wish you much more success and I'm looking forward to hearing and seeing more of you ALLLLLL OVER THE PLACE!
I've been trying to find some good rock music lately, but came to a lot of dead ends. So, I asked my buddy, John Burns the metal guru, what's hot in his world right now and he told me about this band Clockwork Hero out of Stockton, CA. I'm totally digging it. This is what I've been looking for and what I consider rock. Rock music, like hip-hop has all changed and evolved and it's more difficult to find people creating that true, epic sound that I've grown to love. My favs off this playlist are "In The Arms of a Monster" and "Nothing is Free". Click over to their websites and support them! Website,Facebook, Twitter! Rock On!
This past week I attended the Grammy U Rock the Mic Night, and I was introduced to so many talented performers. I had a few favorites of the night and Mario Zamora was one of them. There's just something about an artist with an acoustic guitar, beautiful vocals in an intimate setting that makes a performance so very memorable for me. I can still feel it now. Mario Zamora is a cutie pie ehem I mean an acoustic, pop singer/songwriter who has a strong passion for music. Not only does he sing, but he is a producer and engineer who founded Thirteen Eighty Seven Records. I'm thinking he's the total package...right?!?! LOVE IT! Click over to www.1387records.com for an overview, his Twitter page to get to know him more and sign up for his newsletterto show support and stay informed with all his happenings! Oh, and watch his YouTube channel!
Here's a nice anthem to keep close to your heart. J Slick brings you "Kept My Head Up" with Tia Ferrera and Pacorius. Tia laces the track throughout with her smooth vocals supporting the message, and Pacorius with his winning lyrics, literally, will get your mind right to overcome day to day challenges. This is real anthemesque! ;-) The video was directed byShortStack Entertainment.
